Struggling artists and galleries… what happened at Christies post-war & contemporary art auction proves that art sales are still possible during a weak economy.  Do I think it is alot of money? Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay, so apperently not. To sell for $38 million, it goes to show how much Warhol’s creativity influenced and excited the world. Warhol captured life’s every minute detail in all its messy, ordinary glamour and broadcast it through his work, to a wide and receptive audience. Warhol’s symbols were the concrete images of daily life: a cross, a gun, a can of soup, Marilyn Monroe. Picasso, personally one of the best in my opinion, we saw him living in the world, but we were not privy to him, his wives, children, meetings. There was a heroic quality to his everyday life, and it was absolutely parallel to his role in the studio. But today he is a more abstract person. On the other hand, Andy Warhol, myself not such a fan of his type of work, but whose omnivorous curiosity resulted in an enormous body of work that spanned all mediums and most importantly, contributed to the collapse of boundaries between high and low culture.   What are your thoughts on a piece of art selling for 38 Million… obscene or not?
